What if the whole world could vote
in the U.S. presidential election?
F.A.Q - Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. Why are you doing this?
-
If enough people take part, the results
might be interesting.
- 2. Why "betavote?"
-
One of us writes software for a living, and it seemed
like a nice name for the site.
- 3. Is this part of a political campaign?
-
No. This is not a partisan website and it is not
affiliated with any political party or campaign.
- 4. Are you guys Americans?
-
Yes.
- 5. Are you seriously suggesting everyone in the world should be allowed to vote for the US president?
-
We do, of course, realize that global suffrage is
not compatible with the idea of sovereign states,
nor with the U.S. constitution, etc etc etc.
Note the "what if" - this is mostly a thought experiment.
If it made you think long enough to read this, it's
already a modest success. If you took the time to "vote"
then you helped make it more interesting.
If you are a U.S. citizen, please remember to vote for
real in the upcoming presidential election.
If you are a citizen of any other country that has free,
or even semi-free, elections, please remember to vote
in your own elections.
Voting is important.
If you are a citizen of a country without free elections,
we wish you luck in achieving them in the future. It's not
always easy, and it's often messy, but it's worth it.
- 6. How do you know people are from where they say they are?
-
We don't. We just trust you.
- 7. Can I vote more than once?
-
Please don't.
- 8. Is my vote anonymous?
-
Your vote is as anonymous as anything else you do online.
- 9. Where did you get the pictures/links/information?
-
The pictures and candidate links are from their respective
official websites.
- 10. What about Nader/Peltier/Other Candidates?
-
We originally weren't going to include so-called
"third-party" candidates because these have no
actual chance of winning the real election.
But we
changed our minds (about including them) and
plan to have a page for alternate candidates,
including write-ins. Please be patient, it may
take us a week or two to find time to make the
change.
- 11. How accurate are your statistics?
-
Thanks to the magic Database, the results shown are a 100%
accurate real-time representation of the votes cast.
Beyond that, nothing is certain.
- 12. Why is the site so slow?
-
Hmmm, must be getting popular already.
Time to upgrade the server!
- 13. I saw some other online presidential poll, is that you?
-
Nope. But go vote there too, the more the merrier!
- 14. I have a question not answered here!
-
Please send it to us with the
comment form.
